Matthew Kawamoto has been part of the TPA family since our very first pickleball trip, bringing his elite-level playing experience, coaching expertise and competitive mindset to TPA camps and trips across the years.

A veteran of the Canadian National Pickleball League (CNPL) with Toronto United since the league's inaugural season, Matthew was part of pickleball history in 2023 as a member of the first-ever CNPL Championship team, going undefeated through the playoffs on the way to the title.

A multiple-time national and provincial champion, Matthew has established himself as one of Canada's elite pickleball competitors. Known for his shot-making, strategic IQ and ability to elevate his game when the pressure is on, he has spent years competing against the best players in the country—and learning what it takes to perform at the highest level.

In 2026, Matthew takes that experience to the international stage as Head Coach and Player for Team Canada at the Pickleball World Cup.

And TPA players get to experience that level of knowledge up close.

Whether he's coaching on a TPA trip, leading a camp or sharing the court with players during a training session, Matthew brings the same focus, precision and competitive insight that have made him successful at the highest levels of the sport.

His sessions give players a rare opportunity to see the game through the eyes of an elite competitor—to understand the strategy behind the shots, the decisions behind the points and the details that can take a player's game to another level.
